Caution Advised as Fog Triggers Yellow Weather Warning in North West

Yellow Weather Warning – Motorists and commuters are being forewarned of general fog which could affect journeys across the North West on Monday.

A yellow temperature alert from the Met Office starts at 05:00 BST on Monday and is anticipated to last until 10:00.

“The autumn is seen in 2024 and general fog forming from night till morning,” the Met Office warned.

It displayed some of the moisture could be “completely dense.” Making travel times longer and generating possible uncertainties for bus services.

Regions of the UK are selected to be hit by “thick” autumn fog as the Met Office administers a yellow weather alert.

The prophet said thick fog will drop on regions of the nation from Monday, with the weather alert beginning at 5 am and ending at 10 am.

A Met Office representative said: “It is examining like one of the first experiences in autumn 2024 when we will visit more across-the-board fog forming overnight and staying well into the morning.”

A map published by the forecaster shows the areas set to be affected, including regions of Liverpool, Manchester, and Stoke-on-Trent.

The forecaster urged motorists: “Give yourself the most reasonable chance of bypassing delays by preventing road conditions, departing extra journey time, or amending procedures if required. Make sure you know how to change your fog lights and match they are working before putting off on your trip.”

Transport services are even predicted to face trouble. “Bus and train, ferry, and flights may even be affected. That is why you need to be updated,” the Met Office advised.

Driving in Fog – Yellow Weather Warning

A Met Office spokesperson expressed motorists should match road conditions if moving. Leaving additional journey time, or switching plans if necessary.

“Make sure you understand how to change on your fog lights, and match they are performing. Before putting off on your journey,” the spokesman counted.

Bus and train assistance, as well as flying and ferry travel, might even be affected. With travelers are recommended to check with their journey group for updates.

The Met Office has allocated the following guidance to anyone going in foggy conditions:

  • Understand where the fog light control is before placing it off
  • Stay at a more significant distance than usual from the car in front
  • Be prepared for a sudden bank of fog or floating, patchy fog
  • Review mirrors and delay down before joining the fog
  • Use fog mornings when the visibility falls below 100 meters, which is approximately the height of a football pitch
  • Do not use maximum beam as fog images the light back
  • Once the fog has raised button off fog lights

The notification applies to Halton, Lancashire, Cheshire East, Blackburn with Darwen, Greater Manchester, Cheshire West and Chester, Merseyside and Warrington.
